101 Dalmatians (1996) is a live-action adaptation of Disney’s classic 1961 animated film, based on the 1956 novel by Dodie Smith. Directed by Stephen Herek, the film follows the story of a married couple, Roger (Jeff Daniels) and Anita (Joely Richardson), whose dalmatians, Pongo and Perdita, give birth to a litter of puppies. Cruella, aided by her bumbling henchmen, Jasper and Horace, kidnaps the puppies, along with other dalmatians, to create her fur coat. However, Pongo and Perdita embark on a daring mission to rescue their puppies, enlisting the help of other animals across the countryside.

The film was praised for Glenn Close’s iconic portrayal of Cruella de Vil and its entertaining mix of humor and adventure. The lovable dalmatians, combined with charming performances, made the film a family-friendly hit. The success of 101 Dalmatians led to a sequel, 102 Dalmatians (2000), and inspired the 2021 Cruella prequel.
