Flash Gordon (1980) is a sci-fi adventure film directed by Mike Hodges, based on the classic comic strip character created by Alex Raymond. The movie follows the story of Flash Gordon, a New York Jets football player portrayed by Sam J. Jones, who is unexpectedly thrust into an intergalactic battle to save Earth from destruction.
Along with his companions, Dale Arden (Melody Anderson) and Dr. Hans Zarkov (Topol), Flash is taken to the planet Mongo, ruled by the tyrannical Emperor Ming the Merciless, played by Max von Sydow. Ming plans to destroy Earth, but Flash and his allies unite various factions on Mongo to challenge Ming’s reign and stop his evil plans.
